DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Surrounded by plenty of support, officials from AM Racing confirmed today that 20-year-old Austin Wayne Self will drive the team’s newest entry, the No. 32 Toyota Tundra in Friday night’s NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
“I can’t wait to get back to Daytona this week,” said Self. “The guys at the shop in North Carolina have really been working hard to put two competitive trucks together and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do on the track later this week.”
Aiding Self’s efforts this week is longtime partner AM Technical Solutions.

Daytona is such an important race, not only because it’s the first race in the season, but because it’s one of our biggest races of the year. We had a decent showing last year, so I’m hoping we can go out there on Friday night, put ourselves in a good spot and have a good finish. Everyone deserves it.”
Self has drawn additional support for the race from Don’t Mess with Texas, Go Texan and their partners Hardcore Carnivore and Big Red. Techline, Snaptrack and JB Henderson Construction comprise the remainder of the lineup.
Looking for his second career top-10 finish on Friday night, Self knows finding himself in the right spot at the right time is crucial to superspeedway success, but the former ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year is also hoping to work close with new teammate JJ Yeley who will drive the team’s flagship No. 22 Toyota Tundra Friday night.
“JJ is pretty good at superspeedway racing and I know he can teach me a thing or two,” Self explained. “I plan to talk to him a lot during practice on Thursday and see if we can’t deploy a strategy that will be effective for the both of us. When it comes down to the race, we just have to see how it goes. If we can find ourselves together, we know what the goal is. Hopefully, we can make it a reality.”
AM Racing team principal Tim Self says he’s proud to see his young team thrive and enter two trucks for Friday night’s highly-anticipated race.
“Last year at Daytona was a huge accomplishment for AM Racing by successfully qualifying for the race,” explained Self. “This year, with a lot of hard work and dedication, we’re proud to bringing two trucks down to Daytona with two capable drivers. Both of our drivers do an excellent job representing our partners and we’ll leave it in their hands to do what they know is best for Friday night.”
Bill Henderson will crew chief Self’s efforts this weekend at Daytona. The 2017 NCWTS season-opener also marks the debut of Joe Gibbs Racing engines for AM Racing who made the engine switch during the offseason.
Prior to joining the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2016, Self, competed for two season in the ARCA Racing Series where he earned one win (Winchester 2015), finished second in the championship standings and won the S&S Volvo Most Laps Completed award.
The NextEra Energy Resources 250 (100 laps / 250 miles) is the first of 23 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on the 2017 schedule. Practice begins on Thurs, Feb. 23 from 2:00 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. A final practice session is set for 4:00 p.m. – 4:55 p.m. Qualifying is set for race day, Fri., Feb. 24 beginning at 4:30 p.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 7:30 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90).
