Austin Wayne Self Quote: “Man, we just did not have any luck on Sunday at Pocono. I really thought with a decent starting position we would be in good shape with our No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado, but unfortunately, we got together with another truck on that first lap and our day quickly went downhill from there.

“The trucks are so close together that one little mistake and your day is over with. We were trying to rebound from the first lap deal and found ourselves just being at the wrong place, wrong time when another truck got into the grass and just slid into us and then the wall.

“It’s frustrating because I feel like we could have capitalized on our Homestead run. We’ll go to Kentucky though and try again, it’s one of my favorite tracks. We just have to keep our heads held high.”

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self look to master Tricky Triangle

LONG POND, Pa.: On the heels of their season-best performance at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway two weeks ago, AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self travel to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway for Saturday afternoon’s Pocono Organics 150 eager to earn their first top-10 finish of the season.

Another race weekend without practice and qualifying forced a 31st place starting-position at Homestead, but hard work by Self and crew chief Eddie Troconis kept the team moving forward and onto a solid 16th place finish at the 1.5-mile speedway.

“Homestead was a good race for us,” recalled Self. “We didn’t have a good starting position, but we were really mindful of our changes as the track transitioned and Eddie did a good job getting the truck to its best at the end of the race and gave us a finish that I’m really excited to build on.”

Moving ahead to Pocono Raceway’s 2.5-mile triangle, Self describes the track dubbed as the “Tricky Triangle” as one of the most unique tracks on the circuit, but one he enjoys competing at.

Self, 24, will make his fifth NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series start this weekend and looks to capitalize on three straight top-18 finishes.

He also has five ARCA Menards Series starts at the Long Pond, Pa. track, including three top-10 finishes – including an ARCA track best of sixth last July.

“Pocono is one of those places that keeps you on your toes, but I enjoy racing there. The frontstretch is so massive that it provides some great racing, especially if you can get a run off Turn 3.

“The tunnel turn is treacherous too, but that’s what makes hitting your marks so crucial too. While I won’t be in the ARCA car this weekend, our focus with the truck is to go out there and see if we can maybe use strategy to get some stage points and grab our first top-10 of the year.”

With just 60 laps to get business down on Saturday, Self said once the green flag drops, it’s go-time.

“60 laps will go by in a hurry,” sounded Self. “It’s one of the quickest races of the year and while strategy is also important at a place like Pocono, you have to be willing to take gambles too, especially maybe at that first stage to make sure track position is on your side for the rest of the race. I’m looking forward to getting back up there.”

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the sixth race of the year.

In 89 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.2 during his five years of competition.

The Austin, Texas native is nestled 18th in the championship standings with 18 races remaining.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self optimistic about Homestead return

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self optimistic about Homestead return

HOMESTEAD, Fla.: Looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish last weekend at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway, AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self trek to the Sunshine State hoping to deliver a strong finish in Saturday afternoon’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.

Contending for a solid finish in the fourth NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race of the season, Self suffered bad luck late in the race that left the team with the determination to bounce back at a track where they enjoyed modest success to close out the 2019 Truck Series season.

“I always enjoy racing at Homestead,” said Self. “It’s a great race track that provides plenty of opportunity for racing, battles and action.

“Since the race time has been adjusted closer to night, hopefully, we can start where we left off in November and go from there.”

Self, 24, will make his fifth start at the Southern Florida race track and hopes to build on a track best of 17th at the 1.5-mile speedway in 2017. Last year, qualifying was rained out, but Self held steady throughout the event’s 134-laps to finish 19th.

This year, Self wants more, a lot more, but realizes it may be a bit more challenging compared to last fall.

“It’s been great to be back at the track and racing, but without practice and qualifying, its put the teams on notice to come to the track and leave nothing on the table from the get-go. Eddie (Troconis, crew chief) has done a good job putting us in a place to be competitive – but we strive to be better.

“It’s been exciting to jump right into race mode, but at times you wished you had a little bit of practice to put yourself in a better position for the race. For Homestead, I think we can apply some of our notes from last year and hope it lands us in a good spot until at least the competition caution.

“We want a top-10. I think we’ve shown at times we have the speed to be capable of running and finishing in the top-10. If we can do that, it puts us in a good place for our break until we go back racing at the end of the month.”

For the lone trip to Homestead this season, GO TEXAN and AM Technical Solutions will serve as major associate partners for Saturday afternoon’s race.

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the fifth race of the year.

In 88 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.3 during his five years of competition.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self plan to squeeze their way into contention at Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga.: With the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) back from a two-month hiatus, AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self head to Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway upbeat about Saturday afternoon’s VetTix | Camping World 200.

Self arrived at Atlanta in March just days after his 24th birthday and on the heels of a respectable effort two weeks before at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.

Unfortunately, Self and his Statesville, N.C.-based team never made it on track as the series’ then third race of the season was postponed amidst the coronavirus outbreak just hours before the first practice session of the weekend.

The series roared to life at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway late last month where Self and his Eddie Troconis led team overcame early race handling issues to showcase speed in their No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado in the closing laps of the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

And while a 19th-place finish wasn’t what the team had hoped, the lead lap finish and the speed in their truck gave the family-owned team confidence that they could unload at Atlanta and pick up where they left off from Charlotte to contend for a top-10 finish in the fourth race of 2020.

“Without practice and qualifying, I think we came out of Charlotte with a lot of positives,” said Self. “We surely weren’t where we needed to be at the beginning of the race, but Eddie made some great adjustments and we got better at the end.

“It’s important that we take what we learned at Charlotte and apply it at Atlanta. We’re going in the right direction recovering from Daytona.”

Self will make his fourth career NGOTS start at Atlanta’s fast and bumpy 1.5-mile oval. And while a late-race accident ruined the team’s day last season at Atlanta – Self said before the crash, he was happy with the performance of his No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado.

“We were making strides towards contending for a top-10 and within a matter of seconds, our day was done,” recalled Self. “This weekend, redemption is on the line. We have made great headway with the performance of our intermediate program lately and I hope we are able to showcase that on Saturday afternoon.

“Atlanta is a bumpy race track but that provides the opportunity for great racing. The trucks still draft a lot when it comes to the mile-and-a-half tracks, so it’s important for us to get that right balance with our truck, especially over the bumps and being able to capitalize on the runs that we’ll get during the race.

“Drafting will be important but so will handling. That will produce a good show for the fans and hopefully, we’re a part of the mix.”

AM Racing returns to the track with additional support for the 134-lap race.

Squeeze Marketing will serve as an associate partner for the VetTix | Camping World 200.

“We wish we could be out there at the track to support Austin and the AM Racing team this weekend in Atlanta, but we’ll be excited to watch it on television and cheer on No. 22.”

“It’s always exciting to bring a new partner to NASCAR,” offered Self. “Squeeze Marketing is working with one of our other partners and wanted the experience the racing industry firsthand. We look forward to hosting some of their executives at the track soon and expanding our relationship with them in the future.”

For the lone trip to the Peach State this season, GO TEXAN and AM Technical Solutions will serve as major associate partners for Saturday afternoon’s race.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self welcomes Squeeze Marketing with front row seats at Atlanta.

HAMPTON, Ga.: With his 24th birthday just days in the rear-view mirror, AM Racing’s Austin Wayne Self heads to Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway for Saturday afternoon’s VetTix | Camping World 200 hoping to celebrate a little more.

Of course, winning is tough at any professional level, but for the Statesville, N.C.-based team, a top-10 finish in the third NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race of the season would feel like a win and a perfect belated birthday present for the Austin, Texas native.

In the most recent race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, Self improved on a 26th-place qualifying effort to finish a season-high 17th, but wanting more for his family-owned team, Self is ready to get back to the consistency his AM Racing team dished out throughout the second half of the 2019 season.

“It was a good birthday,” said Self. “I spent the day at the shop hanging with my team and getting the trucks ready for Atlanta and Homestead. We left Vegas content that we were able to bounce back from the troubles at Daytona – but knowing that our team has a lot more to offer.

“We hope to prove that as the season gets into a routine. Hopefully, we can come out of Atlanta with a good finish and some momentum for the upcoming races at Homestead and Texas.”

About AM Racing:

AM Racing is a NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) team owned by entrepreneur Tim Self.

Established in December 2015, AM Racing is headquartered in Statesville, N.C. Operated by Self, a native of Austin, Texas, the team is prided on faith, honesty and intelligent performance.

The team has named Austin Wayne Self as its driver for the 2020 season.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self prepared to roll the dice at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.: Looking to rebound from circumstances beyond their control last weekend at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, AM Racing driver Austin Wayne Self and his Eddie Troconis led team are ready to roll the dice in this Friday night’s NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.

While running towards the top-10 last Friday night at Daytona, a mistake by another driver triggered an accident that wiped Self and others from the season opener. Despite the sour finish, the family-owned team was upbeat about their on-track performance and hope Daytona was a preview of what’s to come in 2020.

“It’s hard to be mad about last weekend at Daytona, because that’s Daytona,” said driver Austin Wayne Self. “It’s disappointing because I felt like we had a truck capable of running inside the top-five and contending for the win and we were done for the night not even 50 laps into the race.

“We’re going to Vegas though focused and ready to hit “restart” on the season and get some momentum before we head to Atlanta in a few weeks.”

Self is no stranger to Las Vegas’ 1.5-mile oval. In his previous six starts, Self has one top-10 finish in 2018 and maintains an average finish of 16.3 since 2016.

With finishes of 15th and 17th last year respectively, Self says those finishes won’t cut it in 2020.

“We’ve spent a lot of time working on our mile and a half program,” added Self. “Afterall that’s the bread and butter of the Truck Series for the most part. I feel like Eddie and I are in a good place as far as communication goes – we’re just working hard to make our trucks better.

“I’m hoping that we’ll be able to show just how hard we’ve worked on our trucks with our first top-10 finish of the year on Friday night.”

Joining the AM Racing team on Friday night is JB Henderson Construction – who is renewing their partnership with the Statesville, N.C.-based team but upping their commitment for the 2020 season.

Established in 1959, JB Henderson performs general and mechanical contracting and is dedicated to serving their customers and employees through collaborative construction focused on safety, solutions, and skill.

In addition to a primary role at Las Vegas, the company will have a predominate associate partnership placement throughout the remaining 21 races.

“I’m so thankful to see JB Henderson Construction increase their support with our AM Racing team this season,” added Self. “For many years now, we have welcomed the support of JB Henderson – but to now have the opportunity to represent them in a larger role is a huge boost for our team heading to Las Vegas.”

For the series’ first of two trips to Sin City this season, JB Henderson Construction and GO TEXAN will serve as major associate partners for Friday night’s race.

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the second race of the year.

In 85 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.1 during his five years of competition.

The Austin, Texas native is nestled 27th in the championship standings with 22 races remaining.
