Quick Recap:

Snapping a three-race stretch of bad luck in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, Justin Fontaine (@driverFontaine) piloted his No. 33 ProMATIC Automation Toyota Camry to a ninth place finish in Sunday afternoon’s Winchester ARCA 200 at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway.

Never seeing the daunting half-mile short track before practice on Saturday afternoon, Fontaine spent practice getting accustomed to the track’s high banks and sweeping corners. Sitting comfortably inside the top-15, with the 12th quickest lap overall, Fontaine was optimistic heading to qualifying.

Finding more speed from practice, Fontaine’s lap of 16.335 seconds at 110.193 miles per hour, Fontaine found himself 13th in the race lineup for his ninth start of 2017.

After noticing a potential issue with the engine before the start of the race, the team opted to swap motors sending Fontaine to the rear of the field for the start of the 13th race of the season.

From the drop of the green flag, Fontaine hovered inside the top-15. Settling into his own pace, Fontaine and crew chief Bill Henderson would utilize the race to adjust the handling on their No. 33 ProMATIC Automation Toyota to maneuver through the field.

With a torrid pace set by the leaders, Fontaine would lose a lap early, but thanks to a caution a few laps later, the Asheville, N.C. native found himself back on the lead lap.

The pace picked up considerably in the second-half but so did Fontaine.

Finding his groove and comfort zone, Fontaine was able to move into the top-10 late in the race and maintain his presence through the checkered flag to finish ninth, the last car on the lead lap.

Driver Quote:

“We really needed this run. The guys on this AM-Win-Tron Racing team really busted their tails to give me a No. 33 ProMATIC Toyota Camry that I could work with. We had a challenge with having to change the motor after qualifying, but we made a hard charge from the rear despite the circumstances.

I learned a lot about Winchester in a short amount of time, but man, what a great place it is to race.

We’ve been bitten by a stretch of bad luck and we really needed this finish to give us some momentum towards our final stretch of the year. I won’t be in the car for a few weeks, but I’ll be cheering from the sidelines and keeping the guys pumped about what we have left to accomplish this season.

I really want to thank ProMATIC, Snap-Track, AM Technical Solutions and all of our partners we have, because without them, I would not be here. Now, that we have a top-10, we need to start working on finishing the top-five and hope that eventually leads us to contending for a race win.”
