AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self welcomes Squeeze Marketing with front row seats at Atlanta.

HAMPTON, Ga.: With his 24th birthday just days in the rear-view mirror, AM Racing’s Austin Wayne Self heads to Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway for Saturday afternoon’s VetTix | Camping World 200 hoping to celebrate a little more.

Of course, winning is tough at any professional level, but for the Statesville, N.C.-based team, a top-10 finish in the third NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race of the season would feel like a win and a perfect belated birthday present for the Austin, Texas native.

In the most recent race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, Self improved on a 26th-place qualifying effort to finish a season-high 17th, but wanting more for his family-owned team, Self is ready to get back to the consistency his AM Racing team dished out throughout the second half of the 2019 season.

“It was a good birthday,” said Self. “I spent the day at the shop hanging with my team and getting the trucks ready for Atlanta and Homestead. We left Vegas content that we were able to bounce back from the troubles at Daytona – but knowing that our team has a lot more to offer.

“We hope to prove that as the season gets into a routine. Hopefully, we can come out of Atlanta with a good finish and some momentum for the upcoming races at Homestead and Texas.”

Self will make his fourth career NGOTS start at Atlanta’s fast and bumpy 1.5-mile oval. And while a late-race accident ruined the team’s day last season at Atlanta – Self said before the crash, he was happy with the performance of his No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado.

“We were making strides towards contending for a top-10 and within a matter of seconds, our day was done,” recalled Self. “This weekend, redemption is on the line. We’ve made great headway with the performance of our intermediate program lately and I hope we’re able to showcase that on Saturday afternoon.

“Atlanta is a bumpy race track but that provides the opportunity for great racing. The trucks still draft a lot when it comes to the mile-and-a-half tracks, so it’s important for us to get that right balance with our truck, especially over the bumps and being able to capitalize on the runs that you’ll get during the race.

“Drafting will be important Saturday but so will handling. That will produce a good show for the fans and hopefully we’re a part of the mix.”

After a two-week hiatus, AM Racing returns to the track with additional support for the 134-lap race.

Squeeze Marketing will serve as an associate partner for the VetTix | Camping World 200.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of this race in Atlanta” said Squeeze Marketing co-owner Brian Gargone. “We have worked closely with the family on a few projects over the last few months and are looking forward to helping the race team succeed in any way possible.”

“The opportunity to bring out the Squeeze Team to experience the culture of the AM Racing Team will be one that we will remember for a long time.”

“It’s always exciting to bring a new partner to NASCAR,” offered Self. “Squeeze Marketing is working with one of our other partners and wanted the experience the racing industry firsthand. We look forward to hosting some of their executives at the track and expanding our relationship with them in the future.”

For the lone trip to the Peach State this season, GO TEXAN and AM Technical Solutions will serve as major associate partners for Saturday afternoon’s race.

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the third race of the year.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self prepared to roll the dice at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.: Looking to rebound from circumstances beyond their control last weekend at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, AM Racing driver Austin Wayne Self and his Eddie Troconis led team are ready to roll the dice in this Friday night’s NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.

While running towards the top-10 last Friday night at Daytona, a mistake by another driver triggered an accident that wiped Self and others from the season opener. Despite the sour finish, the family-owned team was upbeat about their on-track performance and hope Daytona was a preview of what’s to come in 2020.

“It’s hard to be mad about last weekend at Daytona, because that’s Daytona,” said driver Austin Wayne Self. “It’s disappointing because I felt like we had a truck capable of running inside the top-five and contending for the win and we were done for the night not even 50 laps into the race.

“We’re going to Vegas though focused and ready to hit “restart” on the season and get some momentum before we head to Atlanta in a few weeks.”

Self is no stranger to Las Vegas’ 1.5-mile oval. In his previous six starts, Self has one top-10 finish in 2018 and maintains an average finish of 16.3 since 2016.

With finishes of 15th and 17th last year respectively, Self says those finishes won’t cut it in 2020.

“We’ve spent a lot of time working on our mile and a half program,” added Self. “Afterall that’s the bread and butter of the Truck Series for the most part. I feel like Eddie and I are in a good place as far as communication goes – we’re just working hard to make our trucks better.

“I’m hoping that we’ll be able to show just how hard we’ve worked on our trucks with our first top-10 finish of the year on Friday night.”

Joining the AM Racing team on Friday night is JB Henderson Construction – who is renewing their partnership with the Statesville, N.C.-based team but upping their commitment for the 2020 season.

Established in 1959, JB Henderson performs general and mechanical contracting and is dedicated to serving their customers and employees through collaborative construction focused on safety, solutions, and skill.

In addition to a primary role at Las Vegas, the company will have a predominate associate partnership placement throughout the remaining 21 races.

“I’m so thankful to see JB Henderson Construction increase their support with our AM Racing team this season,” added Self. “For many years now, we have welcomed the support of JB Henderson – but to now have the opportunity to represent them in a larger role is a huge boost for our team heading to Las Vegas.”

For the series’ first of two trips to Sin City this season, JB Henderson Construction and GO TEXAN will serve as major associate partners for Friday night’s race.

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the second race of the year.

In 85 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.1 during his five years of competition.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self ready for Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.: The offseason is over, and the start of the 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series season is here.

For driver Austin Wayne Self and his AM Racing team, the duo heads to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway this week looking to start the new season off on the right foot and collect back-to-back top-10 finishes at the “World Center of Racing.”

“The offseason went pretty quick, but I’m ready to get back to the track and get after it,” said Self.

“It’s a been a busy couple months with the big shop move and working hard to better our program for the season. A good finish at Daytona on Friday night would be a great reward for everyone’s efforts.”

The Austin, Texas native will make his fifth start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway on Friday night and statistically speaking, it’s the home of his career-best finish in Truck Series competition.

In 2017, Self-guided his truck through a massive last-lap accident that propelled him to finish second. Two years later, he returned to the top-10 with a solid ninth-place result last February.

This weekend though, Self believes he has a truck that could win the race.

“Our superspeedway program was very strong last year,” added Self. “Of course, a lot of things have to go your way to get to the checkered flag, but a fast truck certainly helps. My crew chief Eddie (Troconis) has a niche for this type of racing and he works super hard to make sure we have what it takes when it comes to superspeedway racing.

“I enjoy the intensity and strategy of this type of racing and I think I’ve been able to show that over the years. Daytona has been accustomed to producing first-time winners in the past and I’d like to add my name to that list.”

For the series’ first of two trips to Florida this season, AM Technical Solutions will serve alongside GO TEXAN as a major associate partner for Friday night’s race.

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, Kreuz Market, and United Sorghum Checkoff Program will serve as associate partners in the first race of the year.

In 84 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.0 during his four years of competition.

About AM Racing:
AM Racing is a NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) team owned by entrepreneur Tim Self.

Established in December 2015, AM Racing is headquartered in Mooresville, N.C. Operated by Self, a native of Austin, Texas, the team is prided on faith, honesty and intelligent performance

Austin Wayne Self, AM Racing hope to shine at Homestead-Miami Speedway

HOMESTEAD, Fla.: Collecting another solid finish this past weekend at ISM (Ariz.) Raceway, veteran NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series driver Austin Wayne Self and his AM Racing team trek to Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway for Friday night’s season-finale hoping to end the season like they started with a top-10 finish in the Ford EcoBoost 200.

Under the leadership of veteran crew chief Eddie Troconis, the AM Racing team has stepped up to the plate this season to be contenders throughout the schedule at a variety of different race tracks.

While their goal remains clear to end the season with their fourth top-10 finish, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team will also use the final 134 laps of the year to get ahead for the upcoming 2020 NGOTS season.

“We are focused on going to Homestead and making the best of it,” said Self who sits 14th in the championship standings. “We have worked hard as a team to put the most competitive trucks on the race track possible. Start to finish, we’ve made significant gains, but we still have more work to do.

“We’re not fighting for a championship and I’ll certainly be respectful of the competition, but I plan to go out and race hard for my team and our partners.

“Homestead is a fun race track because of its multiple grooves. No matter what happens though, I think we would all agree that the 2019 season has been a successful one and we can march ahead with a brighter outlook towards 2020.”

Self, 23, will make his fourth start at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday night, and while the track provides multiple lanes to race, the Austin, Tex. native says keeping up with the handling of their No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado is vital to keeping themselves on the lead lap and in contention.

“You never know how the race is going to go,” added Self. “You can either have a lot of long green flag runs or a lot of short turns. Just depends on a lot of circumstances. We’ll work hard during practice to make sure the truck is best suited for both options.

“I believe the fastest way around Homestead on Friday night will be rim-riding the wall, but you have to be so cautious in a truck because you can easily be sucked into the wall and ruin your night. We’ll have some chances in the first two stages to get our truck balanced right for the last stage. No matter what though, it should be a fun night of racing in November.”

Austin Wayne Self, AM Racing taking strong presence to ISM Raceway

AVONDALE, Ariz.: With just two NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) races left this season, veteran Austin Wayne Self (@AustinWSelf) and his AM Racing team take their recent string of strong on-track performances out west to ISM (Ariz.) Raceway for Friday night’s Lucas Oil 150.

In the series’ most recent race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Self contended for another top-10 finish and appeared poised to deliver his career-best outing at the famed .526-mile short track aboard his No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado, but contact from another competitor on the last lap thwarted Self’s superb effort.

While the 19th-place finish wasn’t an indicator of the team’s performance in the final short track race of the season, the Austin, Texas native invades ISM Raceway upbeat about the constant on-track presence of his Mooresville, N.C.-based team led by crew chief Eddie Troconis.

“I can’t believe the 2019 season is almost over with,” said Self. “There aren’t words to describe how proud I am of the guys on this AM Racing team. Martinsville Speedway surely isn’t one of my strongest tracks, but Eddie (Troconis, crew chief) gave me a great No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado and we were able to fight hard for a top-10 finish – before we had it taken away from us coming out of Turn 4 on the last lap.

“I guess that’s racing – but on the other hand, look how far we’ve come this season as a team. We’re making significant gains from top to bottom and without question I feel like we can continue our presence in the top-10 this weekend in Phoenix and hopefully next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway too.”

For Phoenix, the 23-year-old driver will make his fourth start at the 1.0-mile track. Last fall, he delivered his personal track best effort of 19th after starting 22nd. Fast forward 12 months later, Self says anything outside the top-10 will be a disappointment.

“Phoenix can be a challenging track, but I enjoy racing at it,” he said. “It’s relatively flat, so you have to work hard on the balance to get the truck to roll through the center so you can carry the speed on exit and onto the straightaways.

“With the new layout, it also presents the opportunity for chaos. I think you’ll see a lot of side-by-side racing while the chance to make passes three and maybe even four-wide. There’s a lot on the table when it comes to the next to last race of the season. Everyone’s on different agendas.

“I also have some extra encouragement to perform well at this race as the Phoenix Metro is home to AM Technical Solutions’ architectural and engineering group as well as the base of operation for many of their core services people who will be attending the race with us.  It’s important to me to represent them well at this race.

“For AM Racing and I, we want to continue to show that we are getting more consistent and have no plans to slow down. I think what we have learned in 2019 will make us a Playoff worthy team in 2020. Phoenix could be good practice for that. We’ll see.”
